our Bees

Keeler Farm Honey is the product of small scale, family run backyard beekeeping. Our first nuc was purchased in 2018, and just one year later we were able to extract the first batch of honey. Both our hives and honey flow have been steadily increasing since, and now we’re happy to have seven hives buzzing away in the backyard. Since Keeler Farm Honey is a two-person operation, we’re going to ‘cap’ it at seven hives, so that we can give the bees the attention they deserve.

Here at the farm we put the bees first when extracting our honey. We believe that bees are happier and healthier when they’re eating their own honey, not sugar water solution. Because of this, we’re very careful not to extract too much honey from our hives, especially later in the honey flow season. Of course, if our ladies ever need a boost, we provide them with fondant or syrup. Often the smaller hives need a little help in the springtime to build up the hive, or in the fall to prepare for the long winter months. Our bees are the heart of our operation, so we take their well-being very seriously. Because of this mission, we ask for your patience with our honey products. The amount of honey we’re able to bottle depends on many factors, some of which we can’t predict, so stock may run out. Should this happen, we’ll keep everyone as up-to-date as possible over on our Instagram page, so be sure to follow us to stay in-the-know!

The beekeeping techniques (and a lot of the equipment!) used here at Keeler Farm Honey have been passed down for two generations. We’re very proud to be keeping this craft a part of our family history, and are also thrilled to see broader mainstream interest in the subject!
